ليت شعري والخطوب كثيرة متى رحل قيس مستقل فراجعُ بنفسي من لا يستقل برحله ومن هو إن لم يحفظ الله ضائعُ ثم بكت حتى غشي عليها فلما أفاقت قلت ومن أنت يا أمة الله ؟ قالت أنا ليلى المشؤومة عليه غير المواسية له فما رأيت مثل حزنها عليه. رحلت ليلى عن الحياة دون أن تودع قيساً وتعبر له عما يدور في خاطرها تجاهه كما أنه لم يلق إليها النظرة الأخيرة وقد وجد في الديوان المنسوب إلى أبي بكر الوالبي نص قاطع بوفاتها قبله وذلك أنه مر به فارسان فنعيا إليه ليلى وقالا له مضت لسبيلها فقال : أيا ناعيي ليلى بجانب هضبة أما كان ينعاها إلي سواكما ويا ناعيي ليلى بجانب هضبة
